A Challenging Blast Off!

I am SO EXCITED that I’ve FINALLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYY been able to take part in a “Just Add Ink” Sketch Challenge!! Woot! You can see and play along with the JAI Sketch Challenge #27 by clicking HERE

Another birthday boy required a card so what perfect time to play along with the JAI gals *waves to JAI girls* :D

Here’s the challenge…..

…..and here is my take on the challenge….

I like the effect of punched images being mounted onto the same coloured card stock, gives a subtle textured background. You can kind of see that I’ve raised both the sentiment and the Rocket Ship by using 3D sticky foam but for good measure I took a closer pick of the Rocket Ship…..

The close up also proves that I did add some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to the Rocket Ship, lol!

You know I think this is the first time I’ve inked up the Rocket Ship from the “PUN FUN” Stamp Set?! *horrified gasp* :D This stamp set makes me giggle though as there are EIGHT different stamps, each with their own saying ~ but it’s the sayings that makes me giggle. For example, the picture of the Whale has underneath it, “Get WHALE Soon!” Yup! My kinda giggles, hehe.

I EVEN cracked out my Heat Tool *insert yet another shocked gasp here* To create the sparkly blue strip I inked up my Classic Stars Jumbo Roller Wheel with Versamark®, dumped some Heat and Stick Powder over it then gave it a blast with the Heat Gun. Once the Heat and Stick powder had gone shiny and sticky, I dumped some Aqua Fine Supernova Glitter over the top, tapped off the excess and then gave it another blast from my Heat Gun to seal the glitter. Sparkly but not too pretty for a BIG boy! :D

This is where my Powder Pals™ Trays came in wonderfully handy to catch all the excess powder I was dumping over my cardstock (I’m not the tidiest of crafters ;) ). A tip for using any of the Embossing Powders/Glitters is to give both the tray and the cardstock a good rub over with an Embossing Buddy™ ~ this prevents static and so allows you to recollect most of the powders/glitters afterwards.

So, a bit of versamarking for both the watermark effect (the Classic Stars on the Brilliant Blue background) as well as embossing, some watercolouring with markers for the Rocket Ship and some punching and there you have it…….although, note to self……..Square Punches would’ve been far more handy than manually cutting out squares!! Lol!

Thanks for ‘shootin’ past’! :D

Ju *hugs*

Ok so am thinking the mojo is peeking out from behind the blankets as I saw this Sketch Challenge by Makeesha Byl and was able to bang together a card with a new stamp set that I had just received that day! Yes, I am still reeling from the experience. Wait til I post about a creative session I had with a dear friend! Really! More than one card in a month?? I’m on fire!! *giggles*

So! Without further adieu, here is the Sketch Challenge that was posted…..

…..and here is what I managed to pull together……

Sorry it’s a bit ‘flashy’ (as in too much shadow, lol) but I am actually happy with this one which is a good thing considering I made it for a couple who celebrated their wedding anniversary recently ( ;) ) Unfortunately, the crafty one of the pair will most probably see this post before I have a chance to give it to her! Anyone near her computer’s powerpoint?! :D

Thanks for visiting!

Inspiration Challenge

Last Updated on Thursday, 15 April 2010 08:37 Written by Ju Tuesday, 13 April 2010 03:43

Hello! I am very excited to be posting this as I’ve been rather MIA haven’t I? Well let’s not dilly dally then……

I have been rather lacking in mojo (more on that in another post!) so need a little push to get those cogs a-squeakin’ round again. This week Makeesha (affectionately known as Keesh) has posted her latest Inspiration Challenge……..

Keesh Inspiration Challenge #20

I love love this challenge as I have discovered my own love for country style and this just oooooozes country to me. Now, to translate that to a card…….hmmmmmm……..I actually had a few attempts just to come back to the image and think, darn it, too much colour in my cards! On the bright side, there’s a few blog posts created unintentionally! Lol! (woohoo!) So my last attempt, with inspiration challenge image up on screen before me for constant reminding, came out like this……..

Due to my love for country it was love at first site when I saw the new DSP in the Autumn/Winter Mini catalogue! Perfect name for it too, “Autumn Traditions”. I do believe you may be seeing a bit of this DSP from me because have I mentioned, I LOVE IT?!

2009 Final Final challenge

Last Updated on Monday, 11 January 2010 10:46 Written by Ju Thursday, 17 December 2009 07:55

No no, you’re not seeing double :D

After having my first crack at Makeesha’s sketch challenge, I decided to do it again. Same stamp set but different colours and a WHOLE LOT MORE bling!! It is Christmas after all, hehe. The fab thing about playing with this sketch, out popped another handful of cards!!! Wooohooooo!! So “mwah” to you Keesh for such a great sketch, again :D

So here’s a reminder of the sketch……..

…..and here’s my second play.

Snowmen in a blizzard!

Snowmen in a blizzard!

Although it may be hard to see, I LOOOOVE this full bling effect over the image – a technique learnt from my gorgoeus uppy ducky Julia Emms. Completely the same deal as embossing with the dazzling diamonds but you cover your entire image with Versamark first, then dump a generous load of Heat and Stick powder over the image. Shake off the excess and heat the powder on your image with the heat gun.  Then, dump a generous helping of Dazzling Diamonds glitter over that. Shake off the excess and set it again with the heat gun. Thanks Jules!! xx

2009′s final challenge…..

Last Updated on Monday, 11 January 2010 10:47 Written by Ju Tuesday, 15 December 2009 06:52

…..here’s hoping! LOL!!! Well, on a creative level anywhooosies :D *chortle*

SO! I found a spare minute hiding under my craft desk to have a play along with Makeesha’s challenge. Would you believe I am STILL pumping out the Chrissy cards?!?!?! *major blush right now!!* and would you believe that instead of being all clever and churning out the same design……..I keep changing it?!?!?!?!?! *ju now bangs her head on a wall* Well, I LOVE this sketch challenge! I feel like it’s a classic layout but one I haven’t played with much. Yet another design for one of my various Christmas cards…….lol!

Here’s the layout we had to play with……….

….and here’s me playing with one of my favourite sets. I think I love “Holiday Lineup” as it feels so quirky. Just like me *chortle snort*
